Let's step into the glamourous (or not) world of haute couture as I dissect and celebrate the best and worst looks from this year's Met Gala. From archival looks that have never been worn to real flowers and sand, join us on a magical journey through fashion's most magical night. It's time to jump into the fashion frenzy that was this year's Met Gala.
1. Kendall Jenner

There are mixed opinions on Kendal Jenner's look from the Met Gala this year. Personally, I love it. Kendal is wearing archival Alexander McQueen for Givenchy from 1999. The sculpted dress featured a structured and low neckline and a hip and lower back cutout. Kendal "reawakened" this dress inspired by the theme "reawakening fashion." The colour palette of this dress and its detailing are entirely on the dress code. In a sense, this dress reminds me of a willow tree. Kendal did an interview with Vogue, where she revealed that this was the first time this dress was ever worn by a human, as it was originally so delicate that it was only displayed on a mannequin. After further research, I found that this dress took over 500 hours to make, and about 100,000 black and brass beads were hand embroidered onto it. After seeing her beautiful display, I can confidently say this was one of my favourite looks of the night.
2. Barry Keoghan

This year's Met Gala theme was one of the best and most workable themes in recent years, yet still, there were multiple men on the steps in a black suit. Not Barry Keoghan, Barry wore a three-piece custom-made Burberry suit with a frill-trimmed dress shirt underneath; Keoghan accessories with not one, not two, but three Omega watches and a top hat. Barry's look is suspected to be inspired by the mad hatter to match with his newly debuted girlfriend Sabrina Carpenter's look inspired by Alice (Alice in Wonderland). Barry executed the theme very well, adding a thespian nod to a classic suit and tie.
3. Amelia Gray

Technically, Amelia Gray was the most on-the-them anyone at the Met could be this year; why, you ask? This dress is one of the featured pieces in the new Met exhibit. This dress was told to be too delicate to wear in Jun Takahashi's sensational spring 2024 show. This dress is called the terrarium dress, and some variations have real plants and butterflies inside. Although she looked stunning, and the dress is a work of art, I can say I feel the same about her accessories and hair. I do like the wet hair look, but wet hair, slicked down, AND under a chocker may be too much. Her hair took too much away from the statement of the dress and didn't flatter her look. Although she looked beautiful and had one of the coolest dresses there, this wasn't one of the best looks.
4. Nikki Minaj

There have been mixed reviews for Nikki's look this year; she looks fantastic. The dress was Francesco Risso for Marni. A 50s silhouette inspired Nikki's dress, which features sculpted flowers to create the illusion of a blooming bouquet. Some people don't like the material, and some don't like the hair, but Nikki is truly on the theme. Nikki looks like she is right out of a children's book in the best way possible; she looks like she was illustrated. Maybe it wasn't one of the best, but it sure looked magical.
5. Zendaya look # 1

Zendaya graced the Met steps with not one, but TWO looks at this year's Met Gala. Zendaya wore this beautiful Maison Margiela John Galliano dress for her first trip up the stairs. This look fits the dress code, a thematic dress reminiscent of water, trees, nature, and a peacock. The dress is adorned in tulle and a handmade corsage. Zendaya accessorized with a Stephen Jones for Margiela headpiece, resembling a butterfly. This moody look added a much-needed perspective to the steps that we didn't see much else of Met Night. She took the responsibility as co-chair and delivered one of the best looks of the night.
6. Zoe Saldana

Zoe Saldana was dressed in a long beige dress by Chloé and accessorized with thigh-high brown boots. She looks very pretty, but this look was not for the Met Gala; it's not even fit for the Oscars. The look was very casual and did not give any sense of being on the dress code or the theme. There is nothing much else to say but that she did not deliver this year.
8. Zendaya look # 2

For Zendaya's second look of the evening, she opted for archival. She wore a never-before-worn vintage Givenchy couture from its spring 1996 collection. This gown features an off-the-shoulder neckline, frilly long sleeves, and a beautiful corset. Zendaya's headpiece is archival Alexander McQueen from 2007. This look nicely contrasts with her other look, which is more classy. Zendaya's fashion game has never lacked, but she amazed us with her double looks at the Met this year.
While the Met Gala fades into memory, its impact stays. The most important day of the year in fashion has made its statement until next year.
